The granite obelisk engravings are in memory of

• Left side. 17 RAAF personnel 1962-75
• Back side.  496 Army personnel 1962-75
• Right side. 8 Navy personnel 1962-75
• Front. Dedicated to the 60,267 service personnel and 11 tracker dogs who served in South Vietnam.

Australia’s military involvement began with the arrival of the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV) in South Vietnam July-August 1962

Australian involvement in the conflict was finally declared at an end  after the Governor General issued a proclamation on 11Jan1973

The end date was later amended to 29apr1975 to represent the Australian involvement in the war during the fall of Saigon in 1975

This is the date that Dept of Veteran Affairs and the Australian War Memorial in Canberra recognise as the true date.

The visitor centre is a replica of the Luscombe bowl built at the end of the Nui Dat airfield. The entertainment stage built  for entertainers to perform to the troops in 1971

The ocre path represents the Aussie soil where the journey began

The trees represent the rubber tree plantations 

The grasses represent rice fields.

The photos show some of the experiences faced over there and the lives they lived.

Some of the panels depict the equipment used by their respective services.

There are 60,267 service personnel names and the names of 11 tracker dogs who served in Vietnam (panel 73 is Tracker dogs) Of those , 496 lost their lives in Vietnam

There is also a reproduction of the Long Tan Cross which has become synonymous with the war in Vietnam.

There are holes in the granite slabs at the base of the wall so people can pay their respects and leave a poppy in rememberance.

There were also over 2000 RAAF personnel stationed in Ubon, Thailand(80km from border to Laos)(300km from Vietnam border), to support the American efforts in the bombing raids.
