Doreen RSL members had a wonderful trip to Canberra to visit the Australian War Memorial. It was a wonderful trip filled with fun and laughter and a great group of people who all had a common interest.

On Day 1, we jumped in our busses and we headed off  from the Laurimar Sporting Club and the fun began. We stopped on the way up to pay tribute to the Submariners at the HMAS Otway in Holbrook NSW and also at the Dog on the Tuckerbox in Gundagai for our rest stops. There was plenty of banter and chit chat all the way and maybe a little singing?

When we arrived in Canberra at our hotel, we all quickly settled in to our rooms and then t was off to a local restaraunt for dinner and a few cold drinks.

On our second day in Canberra, we had a wonderful morning cruise around Lake Burley Griffin and spent a couple of hours looking around the amazing Cockington Green. Its a world in mimiature.

After that, we all enjoyed a wonderful lunch at a local pub in the beer garden. The atmosphere was just perfect. Staying in the heart of Canberra, we had short trips around the city to have dinner each night.

Day 3 saw us on the busses again for our trip to the Australian War Memorial. It really is just amazing what they have inside. Memorabilia from all conflicts from around the world. Some took guided tours while others wandered around admiring the wonderful artifacts. A couple of our Veterans even pointed out thier names on the Tarin Kowt sign from Afghanistan.

There is something for everyone at the Memorial.

Later in the afternoon, President Wes Wridgway and Senior Vice President Philip Wood laid a wreath in honour of our founder LT COL John Butler. It really was a distinct honour to be able to give tribute to the man that gave us our wonderful Doreen RSL.

On our way back to our hotel, We detoured up the hills to the lookout at Mt. Ainslie. Canberra at night is a beautiful specticle to behold. Lots of photos taken and there happened to be a lightshow on that night.

Day 4 saw us all get back on the busses for the trip home. Once again stopping at the Dog on the Tuckerbox and Holbrook for our main rest stops. 

We arrived safe and sound back in Doreen later that evening around 5. We all said our goodbyes and went our seperate ways.

It was a trip to remember and we thank all those responsible for the planning.
